RITA comes home...

I was just so thrilled to hear that Sarah Morgan, one of the great stars of the Presents/Modern series of Harlequin Mills and Boon had won the Short Contemporary Rita at Romance Writer of America's National Convention this month for her book, Doukakis's Apprentice

This series is the bestselling of all the romance genre series but this is the first time one of the books has won this great award - the romance industry's equivalent of the Oscar.

A very special moment.

I'm so pleased for Sarah and the whole Presents and HM&B team. There is so much quality writing going on even if the stories are shorter. Absolutely love Sarah's books.

Hi Liz:

It’s about time!

When I started reading romances more than a decade ago there were two schools of thought: 1) feminist academics – women should not read romances; 2) academic romance fans – women should not read Presents. The first because they found the very idea that women could find happiness being wives as adherent. The second because they believed that women should not be able to find happiness with a Mediterranean alpha male! Just a title like: “The Greek's Blackmailed Wife” is enough to give these women apoplexy.

You could imagine my surprise when I read my first Presents and discovered how well the books were written. In a way, Presents is like one of Harlequin’s Premier league teams.

Can you find out how the audience reacted to the announcement? I hope it got a standing ovation.

Hi Liz,

I was`lucky enough to be the first reader/reviewer for Sarah Morgan's Duakaki's Apprentice.

And then I met her this year at the RWA! She is such a lovely person and I'm so happy for her.

Vince- the shouts and yells from the crowd could be heard all the way! Try twitter hashtag #RWA #RITA
