NEW VOICES UPDATE

My talk will be at Pontardawe Library on the 31 August between 2 and 3.30.  Call the library to book places on 01792 862261.  I can't wait!

Meanwhile, Mills and Boon have set up a New Voices page on

Facebook where established authors are ready and willing to answer all your questions. Does the hero have to be a billionaire? Is a best friend essential or a no-no. What happens when your middle sags - and no, the answer isn't a diet suggestion!

This is gold for a new writer, so don't miss this great opportunity.

Meanwhile, here's my thought for the day --

What does your heroine want?
What is her driving passion?
And what will she do to get it?

Oh! I have no idea what my heroine wants. My hero knows what he wants and he's not missing another opportunity to get it. Heroine just seems to be getting swept along. I shall have to think about that. Thank you for posing the questions.

Are you sure a diet isn't the answer to a saggy middle? Darn middles!

I love that it's NV time again, although I'm just as jealous of all the fabulous talk opportunities as I was last year :-)

Heroine wants to be loved and but is in a constant state of self-sabotage. Silly thing. I have no idea what she'll do to get it, but she better to it fast before hero goes off into the distance.

Alexandra. I'm sure it would strengthen everything if she just dug her heels in and said "hold on, buster!" You have to figure out why she's going for the ride, or why she'd call a halt.

Good luck!

The talks are great, Lacey. Wish you could be here, too. Lots of chat on the Facebook page, though, so make the most of it. :)

Marlene, the self-sabotaging heroine - a classic. Clearly this is her character arc and she needs to see what she's doing. Or maybe the hero needs to ask her.

He can show her what she's doing, but she's going to be the one who needs to fix it. Nothing to stop him helping, of course!
