Chocolate Box Spring Blog Hop

Welcome to the Chocolate Box Spring Blog Hop. There'll be a load of posts during April and May from all the member of the Chocolate Box Blog - and a load of prizes including t-shirts, books from fabulous writers such as Donna Alward, Shirley Jump, Susan Meier, Kate Hardy, Jackie Braun, Ami Weaver, Samantha Hunter, Barbara Wallace and Michelle Douglas and - obviously - chocolate! There should be a rafflecopter at the end of this post - if I can ever get it to work - and the more things you click, the more chances to win. :)

My first post is on the colours of spring...

For me the great joy of spring is waking up from the black/grey/white palette of winter to a burst of yellows, purples, pinks as the spring flowers put on a look-at-me show.

Snowdrops are brilliant, but there is nothing like the zingy yellow of the daffodils and this year they have been a joy both in the garden and the little tete-a-tetes mixed with grape hyacinths in “welcome” pots by the front door.

After a particularly nasty winter – not particularly cold here, just endless rain – it seems that the flowers can’t wait to put on a show.

White and pink blossom is breaking out everywhere. The violets planted last autumn are in full flower. The stunning blue of the pulmonarias is lighting up a dark corner and golden wallflowers are filling the air with luscious scent. And across the road we look out on the gorgeous deep pink magnolia in a neighbour’s garden.

Even the tulips, that end-of-spring favourite, are sticking up fat green buds, in a hurry to join the show.

What flower says to you that winter is over, puts a bounce in your step, makes you smile?

Not just the flowers - though they are glorious - but that special bright lime green of the new shoots and leaves, some tipped with a rose pink, and all redolent with promise.

Oh, yes, Caroline, I know exactly what you mean. And catkins. :)

Here in Texas, the bluebonnet lets you know that spring has arrived! I get to see thousands of them every day & I never tire of them. They're beautiful!

I've heard of them, Michelle. Going to look them up on Google now!

Oh, they're a lupin, Michelle! Utterly gorgeous. :)

I've always loved daffodils and jonquils. They look so delicate, but they're really tough. :)

I love the crocus too, Charlotte. Such zingy colours, especially when you catch sight of them carpet planted in grass!

Hi Marcy! Most of my yellow daffs are about over - we had a very warm spell at the beginning of March - but I've got a pot of white jonquils mixed with tulips that are just starting to come out. Bliss!

Love all je spring flowers, iz. They are redolent with colour, and beautiful to look at. Like being in an enchanted garden. Jonquils & daffodils are pretty.

Daffodils say Spring is here to me.

I agree, Donna. I suspect half of it is being without colour during the winter, but nothdng can beat the magic of a spring garden.

Most of my daffodils are over now, Mary, but I've a pot of white jonquils (mixed with pink tulips) just coming out. The tulips need to get a wiggle on!

For me, it's buttercups. I think they are called something else in most places, but that's what they are to me. When they appear, I know we'll have more snow, but I also know that warm weather is on its way.

We have had a very cold and cloudy winter here with lost of snow (I live in the South so that is unusual). As if to make admen's my spring flowers are the best every. I have jonquils blooming all over my yard. The tulips are up and should be blooming soon.

I love buttercups, Michelle - although not in the garden where they are the devil to get rid of. If we're talking about the same thing we don't get them until a little later.

Our tulips are just breaking out, JC. The earliest ones - bright red - are out now and the others are colouring up. Another week and it's going to be heaven.
