Spring...

All last autumn, the dh and I laboured in the new garden, planting bulbs to brighten the spring, perennials to gladden the summer. We're working on the do it once right method (hopefully), so that in future it's just maintenance and top ups.

All over the garden the buds are thickening on trees and roses, and the bulbs are bursting through the cold dark, earth. Daffodils, tulips, and the baby irises which are a favourite of mine.

Yesterday, the dh spotted this brave little soul which had unfurled its petals in the face of a bitter wind.

Very cheering.

Absolutely freezing at the moment, Donna and I'm praying we avoid the snow this week. But from here on in the flowers are the thing. And the birds going mad with lust. :)

Lovely iris. It is at least a month and a half before I can start looking for anything in my garden here in Calgary AB Canada. Have had crocus come up in the last few days of March on a good year.
