We're snowed in! Sixteen cms of snow the first night, another nine last night and it's still snowing.
I did dig a path to the gate - not that anyone is mad enough to venture out in this, we haven't seen a car for two days - but it seemed a sensible thing to do.
The path has now disappeared under more snow. And the bruise on my forehead isn't from falling on ice outside, but slipping in wet boots (when I went to fetch salt) on the mud room floor.
Fortunately I've got everything well stocked up - apart from the turkey and ham which are an impassable five miles away at the butcher - so we're not going to starve. Whether the family will make it is another matter. They are up to their eyes in the white stuff at the other end of the country so it seems unlikely and unless the weather gods decide to smile it's going to be a Christmas by Skype!

Keep warm Liz. We're snowed in too - like most of the country I think! Wonder if I'll get to work on Monday? ;) Caroline x
Hi Liz:
“Christmas by Skype”! I think there is a novel in there somewhere. I love those “trapped in a cabin” stories.
Right now I am listening to the Derby v Reading football game waiting for the Leicester City game to come on later. As of now I don’t know if the game will be played. I just love English football. Do you have a favorite team where you live?
Vince
Ah, Leicester. Gary Lineker...
Our local team is the Swansea "Swans" but I don't follow football. I prefer rugby union - local team the "Scarlets". And cricket - love radio commentary of that. But isn't it wonderful how you can follow stuff in other countries, these days?
We're tucked up warm indoors, Caroline. Hope you make to to work on Monday - or do you get "snow" days? :)
My granddaughter missed the 1st birthday party of one of her "group" today - cancelled because of the snow. Shame - all dressed up in her best frock and pink tights with nowhere to go!
I love the snow.I'm visiting family till tomorrow afternoon,so
I'm really hoping it stops snowing soon !
I gotta get a 2 trains to get home.
I don't wanna get snowbound. but i'd love a white chrismas !
It's a shame about you're Grandaughter missing 1st birthday party.
Hi Liz, swap please? I love the photos...looks so beautiful!
Today my internet browser says 81 degrees for us here!
Although I feel sorry for your grand daughter all dressed up..and missing the party.
Snowed in with the Scarlets? Now, there's a thought! Hope it's a happy Christmas whatever happens.
Good luck with your journey, Princess. Everything seems to be screwed up here today - planes, trains, Tube.
With pleasure, Nas. We had sun yesterday, but nothing to tempt me outside!
Chris, I just had an email from a cousin who was snowballing with her son and her son's friend and her son's friend's dad. Her son's dad is Jason Leonard. He was really good, she said. Perfectly oval shaped snowballs and dead-eye aim.
Hi Liz:
My poor Leicester City got beat in a snow storm 0-3. They said it was the worse weather conditions a football game was ever played at the professional level. They would not call the game because it was on TV!
Swansea City is a very good side. They are in 4th place and could be promoted this year. They beat Leicester once this year and play again on January 3rd – in Leicester this time.
I just love English Football. I don’t know why. But Leicester City over the last five years has been the equivalent of a male soap opera. The must have had ten coaches, three changes of ownership, demotion, promotion, it’s just amazing. Nothing like it in the US.
Please post more photos of the snow. It’s a small world.
Vince
Sending warm higs of sympathy and understanding Liz - the hugs are extra warm because nothing else is around here! The water tank has frozen, so has the car - and the cats totally refuse to go out. We have less snow drifts than before but it's colder, and the roads are lethal.
But like you we're well stocked up and there's a real fire to curl up beside
Kate
*HUGS* Liz! Living in a snowy country looks delightful but sounds painful. Especially if you get up close and personal with your mud room floor on a regular basis. May your bruise be gone by Christmas x
Hi Liz, thanks !
Trains, Buses & even taxi's went on vacation today. lol.
I live 30 miles away from my family so thought i'd be snowbound but my sister Clare struggled & slided on the road 11 miles, I thought we were stuck, but she turned around while i stayed their till a kind friend of mine came from to pick me & take me back home.
I'm so glad to home in the warm & in my crib.
It's even snowing in Spain, friend went yesterday. Great, hey !
My friend is in Spain, she went yesterday. she was looking forward to sun but only greeted with a harsh winter & lots of snow. She could of stayed in England for that & it would be cheaper. lol.
Hi Vince, Footballers shouldn't be playing in this weather.
My team Arsenal was called of yesterday. it sounds more dramatic what's happening to your club than an episode of my favourite american soap Dayz of our lives & that's saying alot.
I'm commisserating with you, Liz. We had a huge blizzard here in Wisconsin last weekend--about 9 inches in the southern part of the state where I am and up to 22 inches up north. Another big storm coming in Monday afternoon. Stay warm and be careful when venturing outside!
Vince, I just love the fact that you're following Leicester City so fervently. And yes, football in the UK does tend to have the appearance of soap opera!
Swansea do seem to be doing well this year, not that I'm going to stand on the sidelines and cheer them. I like my sports on a sofa in front of the television. Lots of fixtures have been called off but some teams have underground heating. The main problem is transport, I think. No one, fans or players, shold be out on those roads in this weather.
I'll try and post some more photographs. We're supposed to be getting sun today - although the chances of my supermarket delivery arriving today are vanishing small. Not to worry. We're well stocked up.
Good luck with your journey, Princess! Be safe.
I think you've had it worse than us, Kate. Not sure how the car's doing. It's under six inches of snow at the moment and is going nowhere until there's a bit less snow. The cats have the right idea!
Lacey, the bump has gone down and left me with a perfect eye-shadow on my left eye. :) I am taking extra care!
Hope everyone is staying warm and safe.
Hi Princess Jaz:
I so much want to see someone other than Man United or Chelsea at the top of the table. I think Arsenal has the best chance. I hope this is their year!
Vince
Tell me about it.
Last trophy we won was fa cup against man u in 2005.
I'd totally love to win the Champion league, it's the alusive one !
Been waiting for years to win it.
Last time we won the Premiership we were the invinibles !
That seems so long ago now, even though in reality it's not.
We have basically a brand new squad
from back then. This season things seem to have been improved some.
Still a slight problem with defense though.
Here's hoping !
Hi Liz, sorry to hear you've got perfect eye shadow !
Keep safe this christmas, ok.
It's still snowing & kinda freezin here.
My friend saw the news & she said
Weatherman said it's going to get worse yet & likely to last till february. Bring on the summer i say.
I truly enjoyed all of the snow pictures, but is it fair to say that here in my part of the country young college girls are decked out in their short shorts? We were up near Texas A & M yesterday. The temperature was in the seventies or eighties and shorts were the dress of the day. It was a simply beautiful day; but I understand the temperature is to drop later this week.
