Dangerous Flirtation freebie at Smashwords

When I launched the new eBook edition of Dangerous Flirtation three months ago, I chose to give it exclusively to Amazon Kindle for 90 days in order to take advantage of the opportunity to give it to my readers free for five days. This was to give a quick boost to downloads, create a buzz, and hopefully garner a few “likes” and reviews – all essential in getting a book noticed.

It worked really well – helped in a large part by the huge number of Kindles sold over the Christmas period. Those post Christmas and New Year downloads were pure gold.

At the same time, I promised those of my readers who use a different eReader that once the 90 days were up, I would give them the same opportunity for a free download.

I have now loaded the book onto Smashwords and over the next week or two it will filter through to outlets for the Nook, Kobo, Sony and to iTunes for everyone using a Mac device. But for those of you who would like to download it free, you won’t have to wait that long.

This is a voucher that all of you who support me by visiting this blog can use to obtain a free copy – you simply type it in when you reach the checkout. Please do pass it on to reading friends who you think would enjoy it, too. The more the merrier!

If you feel like clicking the “like” button for FB, or to tweet your download, I would be deeply grateful. If you enjoy it enough to feel like posting a review on Goodreads or Smashwords itself, you’ll hear me cheer.

The day when stuff didn't work...

I have one of these. Mostly I love it, although moving from the soft water of Wales to the hard chalky stuff of Wiltshire has been challenging. It will only deliver sparkling dishes with the most expensive dishwasher tablets, and salt and rinse aid (I haven't used the last two in years).

Yesterday it threw out all out the electrics, including the heating boiler - although it took an electrician to discover the source of the problem - which meant little work was done. (I really must rediscover how to write the old-fashioned way - with a pen and paper!)

Today, I have to find the guarantee (it's in one of those piles over there) and call someone to fix it.

Come on, people. It's six month's old!

First Page Friday

It's Friday and time for a teasing glimpse at the first page of OLD DESIRES, when the infuriatingly arrogant (no, let's be honest, he's just plain rude) Joshua Kent arrives unannounced on Holly Carpenter's doorstep with an invitation he is not aboujt to let her refuse.

‘MISS Carpenter?’
The enquiry was simply a formality. Holly had no doubt that the man on her doorstep, filling the entrance with his powerful presence, knew exactly who she was. In that, he had her at a disadvantage and she didn’t much care for it, or for the quite unmistakeable chill in his manner.
She had the feeling that, whatever the reason for his call, he would prefer not to be making it and she already wished she had kept to her usual habit of ignoring the doorbell when she was working. Except that this afternoon nothing was going right and she had almost welcomed the interruption.
Besides, one look had been enough to warn her that this man would not have simply given up and gone away. Determination was written in every austere, finely chiselled line of his face; an intensity of purpose that hardened the sensual curve of his full lower lip.
‘I’m Holly Carpenter,’ she affirmed with an unconscious lift of her chin, wondering what this arrogant and very expensively-groomed man could possibly want with her. The well-cut navy pin-striped suit gracing his square shoulders and lean, hard figure, and the telling pale blue stripe of his tie, betrayed that he was a long way from his City office. His method of transport, if the gleaming silver Rolls at the kerb could be described in so plebeian a manner, was already attracting curtain-twitching attention from a window opposite.

Spring...

All last autumn, the dh and I laboured in the new garden, planting bulbs to brighten the spring, perennials to gladden the summer. We're working on the do it once right method (hopefully), so that in future it's just maintenance and top ups.

All over the garden the buds are thickening on trees and roses, and the bulbs are bursting through the cold dark, earth. Daffodils, tulips, and the baby irises which are a favourite of mine.

Yesterday, the dh spotted this brave little soul which had unfurled its petals in the face of a bitter wind.

Very cheering.

Here's an excerpt...

Josh Kingsley looked up at the majestic sight of Everest, pink in a freezing sunset.

He’d come here looking for something, hoping to recapture a time when he and his brother had planned this trip to Base Camp together.  Older, a little wiser, he could see that it had been his big brother’s attempt to distract him from his misery at their parents divorce.

It had never happened.  Now he was here alone but for the Sherpa porters, drawn to make this pilgrimage, take a few precious days out of a life so crowded by the demands of business to be entirely on his own.  To find a way to come to terms with what had happened.

Now, overcome with the sudden need to talk to him, share this perfect moment, make his peace with the only member of his immediate family he cared about he peeled off his gloves, took out the BlackBerry that he’d switched off three days ago.

Ignoring the beep signalling messages – work could wait, this wouldn’t – he scrolled hurriedly through his numbers.  Too hurriedly.  The slender black miracle of computer technology slipped through fingers rapidly numbing in the thin atmosphere.  And as if he, too, was frozen, he watched it bounce once then fly out across a vast chasm, not moving until the heard the faint sound of it shattering a thousand feet below.

When he finally looked up, the snow had turned from pink to grey and as the cold bit deeper he shivered.

First Page Friday - HITCHED!

Today's First Page Friday comes from one of the brand new KISS series that has just been launched in the US and this is by one of my own favourite authors, Jessica Hart.

Here's the blurb:

Engineer Frith is a woman with a plan, and it doesnt include weddings of any kind.  But when shes roped into organizing a hen party for her spoilt half-sister, she ends up relying more than she wants on her annoying neighbour George and before long a wedding doesnt seem quite such a terrible idea after all.

Here's the first page:

I WAS having a good day until George Challoner turned up.
It had rained almost every day since I had arrived in Yorkshire, but that morning I woke to a bright, breezy day.  By some miracle Audrey had started first time, and I hummed as I drove along the country lanes lined with jaunty daffodils to Whellerby Hall.
When I arrived at the site, Frank, the lugubrious foreman, had even smiled, a first.  Well, his face relaxed slightly in response to my cheery greeting, but in my current mood, I was prepared to count it a smile.  Progress, anyway.
The ready-mixed concrete arrived bang on time.  I stood and watched carefully as the men started pouring it into the reinforced steel raft for the foundations.   They clearly knew what they were doing, and I had already checked the quality of the concrete.  After a frenzied couple of weeks, I could tell Hugh that the project was back on schedule.
Phew.
