I expected to be here writing a cheery New Year message full of last year's mistakes and deterination to do better this year.

Instead, my heart is full of memories of the lovely Penny Jordan who died yesterday. I first met Penny in Washington at an RWA conference ten years ago. She was so sweet, so shy - one of the best known authors in the room at the Harlequin party, but I doubt if there was one who was more modest, more driven to do her best for her readers with every book, more supportive of new writers.

Her death at the tragically young age of 65 is a message to never waste a minute doing less than my best, never waste a moment of the life I have.

 God bless her.

A moving tribute to a lovely lady.

Penny will be missed by many people - those who knew her personally, those who met her in their writing lives and those legions of fans who adored her books.

You are so right, Liz. I'm still feeling terribly sad, but I know she'd be urging us to all just get on and write.

What a lovely post, Liz. It's terribly sad that the world has lost such a great person.

I wasn't fortunate enough to meet Penny but tributes like Liz's and others I've read clearly show how much she'll be missed. I believe such a powerful surge of love from those who have been thinking of her must have made its mark.

I'm still catching up on blogs missed over the holidays, so am only just reading this. Penny Jordan was a long-time favorite author of mine, and I am saddened to hear of her passing.
